Intertwined Designs was started in 2001 by myself, Betsy Cassell.
Ever since I was a youngin I wanted to own my own business. I grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and then moved to Bellingham, Washington in April of 1998. I started working at a local fabric/sewing machine store. After several years of working there, I thought, hey, I can do this myself. I joined our local Farmer's Market and started Intertwined Designs. It took off quite well, I had just a small rack of hemp clothing, and was concentrating on my quilts and quilted goods. I soon realized that the clothing was where I needed to put my time and energy. Now, I have been in business for almost 10 years, and I should say it is a very successful business thanks to all my faithful stores and customers.It has been hard, just like anything is, but I do love what I do!
I live in an off the grid cabin with my partner very near the Canadian border just north of Maple Falls, WA. My work shop is a 10-15 min drive/45 min bike ride away. I spend most of my time sewing clothing for Intertwined Designs, sometimes I'm still creative, and get some quilting in. When I'm not sewing I'm most likely taking my dog Nakiyo, for a hike or bike ride, attending my Iyengar yoga class, snowboarding in the Mt. Baker back country with my split board, or working on my new obsession, rock climbing.

Intertwined Designs strives to produce high quality, durable clothing for men and women that is handcrafted in an economically and environmentally sustainable manner. We choose hemp for our designs because it is strong, requires minimal chemical inputs, and grows in higher yields per acre than other fibers. Hemp fabric has the ability to breathe which makes it an ideal fabric for active clothing. All garments are pre-washed to ensure quality apparel that looks and feels great.
